What makes an object worth Preserving
Every piece begins with a feeling. Long before we think about leather or imagine what a piece could become, we ask ourselves a simple question: Does it still has something to offer?
We have always been drawn to furniture with a strong presence, pieces that were built with intention, crafted to last and designed to be a part of every day life.
There is a confidence in antique and vintage furniture, that it’s difficult to describe. It does not ask for attention, it simply has it.
For us, beauty alone is never enough. A piece should still have a purpose. We love finding furniture that can continue to be used and appreciated today, just as it was generations ago. We believe thew objects we live with every day should carry both, meaning and function.
This is also why we begin with what already exists. Beautifully made furniture has survived for decades, sometimes centuries and we see no reason to replace it simply because time has passed.
Preserving this pieces is our way of honoring the craftsmanship that came before us while giving them the opportunity to become part of another generation’s story.
Not every antique is meant for our work. Some pieces no longer fit the way we live today. Others are so richly carved or ornate that adding leather would take away from what makes them special. We have learned that sometimes the greatest respect we can show is to leave it exactly as it is.
The pieces we do choose invite conversation. They leave room for our work without loosing their own identity. The leather becomes another layer in their story, never replacing their history, only continuing it.
Every object we preserve has already lived a remarkable life. Our hope is simply to help it live another.
Because in the end we are not just creating furniture, we are caring for objects we believe still have something to give.
Perhaps that is what we are really preserving, the stories that each piece carries for those who continue to collect them.
